Fan art has probably been around for as long as fiction. Who didn’t draw their favorite characters in the back of their notebooks at school? Now, for aspiring and professional artists, it’s not only a great way to unleash their creativity and show love and respect to something they enjoy. They can also make some money in the process – however, there’s also a catch. How to make fan art so it appeals to the fandom but doesn’t break any copyright laws?
This short yet extremely practical course is presented to you by a professional digital artist Douglas Butner. In fifteen informative lectures, you will learn how to make fan art using different techniques and how to sell fan art legally without worrying about copyright infringement. Douglas will be sharing all tips and tricks he learned firsthand selling fan art and his original artworks online.
The most famous characters, catchphrases, and motives are most likely to sell well when incorporated into fan art. However, the right to use them is usually reserved to the owner of the original creations, such as TV series or movies. It might be Disney, Marvel, Cartoon Network – any of the industry giants. You are free to use the oldies that are in the public domain by now. The problem is, it’s much less likely to become as popular.
Finding out how to sell fan art legally can be tricky – however, Douglas is ready to tell you all about it. In the course, he will explain how to make fan art that can be submitted into special partnership programs. Together, you will explore the platforms that have these programs, including RedBubble and TeePublic. You will also go through their requirements and the submission process.
Exploring the platforms, you will notice the supply of fan art is not too shabby. Don’t worry: in this course, Douglas will teach you how to make fan art that stands out, sells well, and generates some nice income. First, you will learn how to choose the fandom to target. Then, you will move on to actually creating your well-selling fan art pieces.
Following the techniques presented, you will not spend tons of time creating the design too. Using popular software such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, you will master using vector silhouettes and advanced filters, styling phrases and other texts, creating patterns and even mandalas out of your favorite images. Douglas will illustrate each method in practical video lectures.
The idea of learning how to make fan art might seem simple. It’s all about the passion and the emotion, right? Well, yes – however, when you want to turn it into a business or a side hustle, there’s a lot you have to plan and think about ahead.
With this course, you can be sure you’re covering all the bases and maximizing your chances to become a great-selling fan art creator. Show the love to your favorite fandoms and create some extra income today!

I love to learn and teach. I am a free-spirited creator and artist in many disciplines. My courses focus on graphic design, specifically creating and selling digital art. I teach what would help a younger me, including the strategies I used to sell over 15,000 copies of my artwork without advertising.
I run fashion sites: liveinlove.life and sublimationgalaxyshirts.com, and also sell my art on POD sites like Redbubble & Society6, and stock photography sites like Adobe Stock and Shutterstock.
I founded Current X Change LLC, a company that makes apps that allow creators to share their creations on a global map for all to see and vote on. You can try out our first web app, cXc Music (Alpha), at music.cxc.world. I wrote all the code to make the app, including the cryptovoting algorithms, designing the frontend, the database, and everything in-between.
I also started Aquarius Academy (aquarius.academy). Our mission is to help evolve planetary consciousness with love. We distill conscious information to help seekers connect with the right information for their point of their journey.
