On February 13, CZ shared that his dog's name is Broccoli and explained:
I wanted a name that starts with ‘B’ and has some green in it, so I named him Broccoli.
He also joked that it had a "blocky sound" and sounded like “blockiichain”, tying it back to crypto.
CZ's announcement led to the launch of Broccoli-themed tokens. Many of these were created using Four.meme, a meme coin launchpad on BNB Chain similar to Solana’s
One version of the BROCCOLI token briefly hit a $400 million market cap before dropping to around $74 million. In the first two hours, it generated over $220 million in trading volume, with at least 11 wallets making over $1 million in profit.
Despite the frenzy, CZ made it clear that he is not backing any of these tokens:
I am NOT issuing a meme coin. I am just posting a photo of my dog and his name, as some of your requested.
