A cryptocurrency broker from the UK suffered serious injuries after jumping from a balcony to escape kidnappers in Spain.
The three suspects, all British nationals, have been arrested and charged with multiple crimes, including kidnapping and illegal possession of weapons.
According to a report from Metro on February 9, the broker had agreed to meet the suspects for drinks in Estepona, a town near Málaga. When he arrived, the kidnappers allegedly demanded he transfer €30,000, approximately $30,917, from his clients’ accounts.

In a desperate attempt to get help, he called a friend in London, pretending to speak with a customer to obtain access codes. Realizing something was wrong, the friend alerted the victim’s mother, who then contacted Spanish authorities.
On February 8, police tracked down the apartment where the broker was being held. As officers approached, the kidnappers were momentarily distracted.
Seizing the opportunity, the broker attempted to climb down from the balcony but fell about 30 feet, breaking both ankles. Spanish police, who arrived at the scene, saw him trying to jump before he fell. He was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.
A search of the apartment discovered €10,000 (about $10,305) in cash, a money counter, two firearms, three knives, and 25 grams of pink cocaine.
