Crypto "Robin Hood"? William Banks Dumps Meme Coin, Sends $50,000 to Palestine

William Banks, a comedian known for his unconventional humor, has stirred controversy after launching and quickly abandoning a Solana SOL $137.68 meme coin.

However, according to a February 24 post on X, Banks claims his goal was to raise funds for humanitarian aid in Palestine, sharing proof of $50,000 in donations.

His involvement with Solana meme coins came after a viral video in which he pretended to escape from prison by crawling through a fence. The clip gained more than 20 million views on X.

Following the viral video, Banks launched a meme coin called White Moses (MOSES) through Pump.fun. The token’s value skyrocketed, reaching a peak market cap of $257,000 within an hour before the creator’s wallet suddenly sold off its holdings. This caused the token’s price to crash, leading to accusations that Banks had orchestrated a rug pull.

Banks later deleted all posts promoting the coin and stated that he had raised $50,000 from the project. He then shared what appeared to be receipts for five separate $10,000 donations to charities assisting Palestinians. Some of these payments were acknowledged by the charities' official pages.

Some see him as a scammer who misled investors, while others view him as a modern Robin Hood who takes from crypto traders to support a cause. Political commentator Eden Riley posted on X:

He escaped from jail only to immediately rug-pull a bunch of crypto bros to donate the money to Palestine… he might be the greatest to ever do it.
