Ethereum has taken a significant step towards shifting from PoW to PoS.
On June 8, Ropsten was the first longstanding test network (testnet) to run through “The Merge” as it successfully shifted to Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus.
As stated by the Ethereum Foundation, before the mainnet transition, other testnets such as Sepolia and Goerli are expected to shift later this year as well. As for the other testnets, including Kovan and Ribkeny, they will no longer be supported by the client devs and only the community will be able to partake in maintaining it.

Is Cryptocurrency a Good Investment? (5 PROS & CONS!)
The crypto ecosystem is slowly shifting from Proof-of-Work (PoW) to Proof-of-Stake (PoS) by merging Ethereum Mainnet and Ethereum Beacon Chain. Actually, PoS is a long-anticipated mining model that uses less energy and ensures simpler participation in providing further decentralization and extra security, as well as managing the network.
On top of that, the shift will assist in cracking the case of how Bitcoin and the Ethereum platform’s significant effect on the environment might be addressed. Furthermore, the shift will provide more opportunities to grow the platform.
A number of users in the community celebrated the achievement. For instance, founder of Metav3rse Roberto Nickson said that “it's a huge milestone”:
Moreover, even though an Ethereum dev Parithosh Jayanthi implied that there were several bugs, he mentioned that everything will be fixed eventually and congratulated “every client team on a great merge:”
Chief operating officer at Geode Finance Simon Furlong stated that Ropsten's shift and its outcome will contribute greatly to the whole Ethereum community as the real Merge on mainnet is approaching.
“The successful merge is a big confidence boost for the wider Ethereum community and shows that the ETH core devs are on track to successfully transition later this year.”
Back in May, during the Permissionless conference, Ethereum core developer Preston Van Loon announced that "The Merge" is expected to fully see the light of day this summer.
In other news, on May 16, the internet security company dubbed Cloudflare stated that it would soon launch Ethereum validator nodes in the midst of “The Merge.”
