The creator of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), Brendan Greene, is focusing on his new metaverse project, Artemis.
Greene, who left PUBG’s development team in 2019, has no plans to include non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in this project.
Although NFTs are unlikely to feature in Artemis, Greene is open to exploring blockchain technology if it proves useful. “Blockchains are an interesting financial instrument,” he noted, adding that if a digital ledger system aligns with his vision, it may find a place in the project.

Speaking to IGN on January 2, he stated that NFTs are not part of his focus, saying, “not even thinking about” them at this stage. Instead, his priority is to build a functional platform for gameplay.
The gaming and crypto industries have often promoted NFTs to secure digital assets and intellectual property across various platforms. However, Greene remains skeptical, stating:
Our concern is about getting the engine to a state that we can make things in it and then as I said, Game Two, we’ll test ideas then, but really now, not even thought about it. More just getting some fun games made.
The foundation of Artemis lies in several interconnected projects. The first, Prologue, is a survival game set in a massive world created using NASA Earth data. This project is already available for testing and is expected to launch in 2025. The second project, which is unnamed, will feature large multiplayer worlds with millions of players.
Meanwhile, Ragnarok Online will get an update in the first quarter of 2025 with a new Web3 experience. What is it? Read the full story.
