An X user, @diego_gg95, recently got caught up in an online scam that wiped out their entire cryptocurrency wallet.
It began with an X account, @0xAlpha_Wolf, offering a fake part-time job as a community manager for an online project. Everything seemed legitimate initially—the links to social media and the project’s website all checked out, so the user felt pretty confident.
Things took a darker turn when the scammer shared a Discord link, supposedly for the project’s community.

After joining the Discord server, the scammer sent a code to download a "game in development". However, when the victim tried downloading it, their browser flagged it as potential malware.
That should have been a huge red flag, but the scammer smoothed things over, saying the developers were working on fixing the issue.
The victim, trusting the scammer, bypassed browser warnings, figuring their antivirus software would catch anything sketchy. The file looked clean and even passed antivirus scans.
To be extra cautious, the victim disabled their browser wallet extensions before running the installer.
However, instead of installing a game, the file unleashed malware. Hours later, the victim discovered that their cryptocurrency wallets were completely drained, and their funds had been sent to various unknown addresses.
