Based on the announcement, Sony Music filed a trademark application to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on August 30th.

The company aims to provide downloadable audio and video recordings featuring live music performances authenticated by non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Moreover, NFTs authentication will be used for audio recordings, images, and artwork related to live performances and various multimedia files.

The trademark application also includes non-Web3-related services. The company aims to use the trademark for marketing services and promotions, including advertisements for artists, their music, audio, video recordings, or other musical services.

The music world has been increasingly more interested in incorporating NFTs into their projects.

A Devon-based English rock band, Muse released their ninth album, “Will of the People” as a non-fungible token (NFT) album. The album was distributed as Digital Pressing, an individual, chart-eligible digital release.

On top of that, NFT marketplace OneOf has collaborated with The Christopher Wallace Estate to create American rapper Biggie Smalls' NFT collection

On August 29th, Eminem and Snoop Dog hosted a metaverse-inspired performance on MTV’s Video Music Awards. The performance was partially broadcasted from Yuga Labs Metaverse and included artist’s Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs.

Moreover, MTV initiated a new category called “Best Metaverse Performance.” In the 2022 VMA’s, BLACKPINK The Virtual in PUBG won this category.

Previously, the news broke that Formula1 has filed for two crypto and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) related trademarks. Moreover, French luxury designer house Hermès filed a trademark to provide crypto, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and metaverse goods and services.
