• Bitcoin ETFs had $2.3B in inflows last week;

• One of the Fed governors hinted at a possible interest rate cut in March (making borrowing cheaper, which often encourages more investing);

• FOMO is at full speed - Google searches for "How to buy crypto" broke a new record.

To all y'all who left your jobs and texted every group chat that you'd "make it" on January 20 - the wait is over. Trump's about to be sworn in as the 47th president of the US.

We've talked a lot about why the crypto community waited for today. Trump's promises - like creating a national Bitcoin reserve and setting up a crypto council - had 'em looking for the nearest place to finally get that Lambo.

But, uh... let's just say what happened this weekend wasn't the "better crypto future" we expected.

It all started when Trump dropped this bombshell on social media:

Some thought the account got hacked; others speculated that Trump was trolling... but no - hours went by, and the tweet stayed up. The TRUMP memecoin was real.

And not just real - what it did to the market made me believe in miracles:

• Hit a $15B market cap;

• Ranked as the 13th largest crypto for a moment (it overtook XLM, SUI, and HBAR);

• Oh, and it made Trump a memecoin billionaire. Writing this felt bizarre, NGL.

All that in LESS THAN 48 HOURS. What an industry, huh?

But you know what's the craziest part? This story's just getting started.

Less than a day later, Melania Trump ALSO launched her own memecoin.

🤠 You can't convince me this is not a fever dream.

MELANIA didn't come here to play, either:

• Shot up to a $2B market cap;

• Immediately caused TRUMP to crash - it dropped from $74 to $38 (... is this the crypto version of "happy wife, happy life?")

As you could've guessed, this whole situation made everyone go crazy go stupid. Over the weekend, DEX trading volumes on Solana (where these coins launched) broke records as they hit $27B.

Actually, not only records - it broke the goddamn blockchain itself. Solana got so congested that most users couldn't even trade for a couple of hours.

And that's still not the end of the drama. Bubblemaps entered the chat to reveal that 80% of TRUMP and 89% of MELANIA tokens are held by single clusters (aka, insiders).

Basically, this started looking a whole lot like a cash grab, and people were not thrilled. Some even called it the biggest mistake before a Presidential inauguration.

But hey, we're being positive in 2025, right?

1. Pro-crypto regulations: if nothing else, Trump's clearly embracing crypto, which could mean a friendlier regulatory environment;

2. Onboarding no-coiners: a president launching a memecoin? That's gotta bring some new faces into the industry.

Wild times. No idea what to expect later down the line, but I'm sure it'll be entertaining.

🛍 World Liberty Financial, the Trump-linked DeFi platform, went on an Ethereum shopping spree - they spent $48M to get 14,403 ETH.

🚔 The FBI foiled a plan to kidnap a Miami jeweler holding $2M in crypto. As if that wasn't bad enough, the group called themselves "goons" 😐 ... They deserve to go to prison just for that name.

📝 Wyoming dropped a bill to create a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. Yeah, the race to hodl BTC is really a thing.

🪪 Crypto.com has become the first major crypto company to get an in-principle MiCA license. Full approval means they'll soon be providing their services across the EU under the new rules.
