The game was built using Unreal Engine 5, which is the latest version of Epic Games' creation platform that allows developers to create next-generation real-time 3D content. It allows developers to make extremely realistic and high-quality games.
With its cinematic gaming experience and the possibility to earn digital assets that can be converted into fiat money, Star Atlas intends to provide an immersive metaverse gaming experience that spans various gaming genres.
Since every item on the Star Atlas crypto project is a non-fungible token (NFT), the project has its own NFT marketplace. It features various in-game items which can be bought or traded. This includes ships, resources, collectibles, and access items, as well as mining or staking equipment.
Besides, apart from the ATLAS token, Star Atlas also has the POLIS token, which is used for governance. This means that POLIS token holders have the right to participate in the decision-making processes considering the further development of the Star Atlas crypto project.
It’s also worth mentioning that the game was built on the Solana network due to its low-cost transaction fees and quick transaction times. Solana employs the BFT-based Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism, which enables reaching up to 50,000 TPS.
Star Atlas Gameplay
The 2620 futuristic science fiction setting of Star Atlas features three major fractions that have developed and are varying based on wealth and power:
- MUD, which represents humanity;
- ONI, which represents a coalition of alien races;
- Ustur, which represents sentient androids.
Overall, there are four types of game genres combined in Star Atlas: exploration, flight simulation, role-playing (RPG), and play-to-earn.
In terms of exploration, players are able to explore and exploit a huge variety of stars on the Star Atlas metaverse. First-person flight is used by players to independently navigate between these stars, which leads to the flight simulation part. Furthermore, players can mine materials and generate income by doing so, which makes Star Atlas a play-to-earn game. Lastly, it’s an RPG game since players can choose the professions of their characters and the fractions they want to join.
Additionally, there’s also a combat mode in the game, which allows players to fight with other players. Once a player starts the game, he/she immediately chooses a fraction. Each fraction has a security zone where no combat is allowed. However, users can go to less-secure zones, which allow combat.
Besides that, players can build their own space stations and spaceships. They can then use these spaceships to compete against each other, or combine their forces and compete with others collectively. By combining their forces, players are even able to build their own space cities that work in a principle of a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO). Resources for building spaceships can be bought using ATLAS tokens. You can see the current ATLAS price on its price chart above.
Use Cases of ATLAS Tokens
ATLAS, one of the two native Star Atlas tokens, is mainly used as means of payment within the platform. This means that players can purchase various in-game items and assets using ATLAS coins. In addition to that, ATLAS coins can be sold on the Serum DEX, as well as used to provide liquidity.
