HTML noframes Tag: Main Tips
- HTML
noframes
tag was used as a fallback for browsers that did not support the <frame> element. - It had to be placed within the <frameset> element.
- In HTML5, frames are not supported.
<frame>
,<frameset>
and<noframes>
have been made obsolete.
Usage of HTML <noframes> Tags
Before it was deprecated, you could have used HTML <noframes>
tags to wrap fallback content for the browsers which did not support the <frame>
tag:
Example
<frameset cols="300, *">
<frame src="frame_a.htm">
<frame src="frame_b.htm">
<noframes>
<body>Frames element is not supported by this browser.</body>
</noframes>
</frame>
</frame>
</frameset>
Usually, it was used in one of these two ways:
- To inform the user their browser does not support frames
- To present an alternative page version with similar functionalities available
Tip: in HTML5, frames are not supported - however, you may use <iframe> as an alternative.
